Make Lasting Lifestyle Changes As Resolution Enthusiasm Wanes

Lots of people start the year with ambitious ideas about how they are going to break habits and make changes to their lifestyle. However, just a couple of months into 2024, many have given up on their New Year’s resolutions and gone back to their old ways.

Long-term adherence has always been the problem with resolutions, so it’s not surprising that only 43 per cent of people will still be sticking with them by the end of March. After two years, just 19 per cent have maintained their lifestyle change, which means 81 per cent give up.

Making significant changes to your life is no easy feat, particularly when it comes to improving eating and exercising choices, or quitting an unhealthy habit, such as drinking or smoking.

Even though a YouGov survey found 55 per cent of those who made resolutions this year said they wanted to improve their fitness, 52 per cent intended to eat healthier, and 49 per cent wished to lose weight, these are all challenging changes, as they involve a lot of willpower and self-control.

Not only do they have to take on new demands, such as joining a gym class or eating more vegetables, they also have to give up some of their vices too, whether that is a weekly takeaway or a cake with their coffee.

Lots of people struggle with limiting beliefs, and do not appreciate what they are truly capable of. This means they fail in what they are trying to achieve because they do not have the confidence to believe it is in their future, which only perpetuates the problem.

This is why seeing a life coach might be the solution those who are on the brink of giving up on their positive lifestyle change need. Experts can break through these limiting beliefs, providing the self-assurance that these goals are achievable, and they are capable of success, no matter how unattainable it may seem.
